TORRENTIAL rain put a dampener on the final day of Wolsingham's 223rd annual agricultural show.

But despite the weather many turned out to see the greyhound racing which was planned as part of the race day finale.

Shuey the greyhound battled both weather and fellow racers to claim victory as The Willows Catering Champion.

Afterwards, organisers had to throw in the towel and cancel the harness racing which was planned to bring the show to a climax last night.

Show secretary Gordon Dobson said: "We had a reasonable gate despite the weather and everyone enjoyed themselves. It is amazing how they ran and we managed to get two hours of racing.

"We are looking forward to next year. We will build on the foundations of this show and it's onwards and upwards.''
