POLICE are warning people after a series of thefts by bogus water company officials.
Three elderly women were targeted in the Bishop Auckland area on Friday.
A man called at the home of an 87-year-old woman at 4pm and said he was working on the street's water supply. He distracted her while a second man searched the house, but nothing was taken.
Shortly afterwards, similar raids were carried out in which cash was stolen.
One of the raiders was described as 20, about 5ft 9in, with a pale complexion and short, dark hair. He was clean shaven and wore a dark sweatshirt and dark trousers. The two others were of similar age and height.
Anyone with information is asked to call police on (01388) 603566 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
