PLANS to increase the size of a controversial development on the outskirts of Durham could win approval today.
Miller Homes (North-East) wants to build 44 flats on former allotments and grazing land between Potterhouse Terrace and Front Street in Pity Me.
Last year, Durham City Council gave developer IDS permission for 37 houses, maisonettes and flats on the land after agreeing to remove one unit from the plan.
The scheme attracted objections from residents and Framwellgate Moor Parish Council and local councillor Neil Griffin warned of a traffic gridlock on Front Street.
Officers are recommending that the development control committee approve the latest scheme.
A roundabout at the Potterhouse Terrace, Front Street and Abbey Road junction will provide a safe access to the development of two and three-storey terraces.
A report to councillors said objections to the original scheme over the traffic scheme and style and density of development, still stood.
The report said the density was acceptable despite the extra units. It said that the architectural style was compatible with existing buildings.
