THE heroes of the Battle of Britain will be remembered in a service in Stockton on Sunday.
Veterans and air cadets will take part in a parade and service of remembrance at Stockton Parish Church to mark the 62nd anniversary of what Churchill called Britain's Finest Hour. The parade along Stockton High Street, which will start at 10.30am, will be led by Cleveland Police Band and will also include Sea and Army Cadets. Tom Booth, president of Stockton and Thornaby branch of the Royal Air Forces Association, said: "A high proportion of our members are now in their eighties and some are too frail to march. However, we expect them to be at the war memorial and parish church for wreath laying ceremonies."
WELL DONE: Arriva Trains employee Linda Green has received national recognition for her work. Mrs Green, of Redcar, was awarded a special commendation in the Personality of the Year category at the National Rail Awards. Mrs Green has been in the rail industry for 19 years, working at Redcar Station for 13 of them. She runs the station and assists customers. She and her husband, Michael, received a night at the Hilton Hotel in London as a prize.
CHARITY BARBIE: Guisborough and Great Ayton Rotary Club raised more than £850 for local and international charities at a barbecue at Ingleby Greenhow.
KATIE TRUST: A raffle at Redcar's Laburnum Road library raised £150 for the Katie Trust cancer charity. Staff at the library still have a "guess the number of sweets in a jar" competition and are to raffle a knitted doll for the charity.
CASH RAISED: Danby Craft Group raised £47.25 for church funds from door donations at a craft fair held last Saturday at Methodist Hall, Milton Street, Saltburn.
MEETING OFF: The meeting of the Hartlepool and South Easington Community Health Council planned STILLAT LARGE: The next meeting of the Levendale WI on Monday features a talk by by Peter Barron, editor of The Northern Echo. The subject will be Dad at Large. The meeting, at Yarm Primary School, starts at 7.30 pm. The competition for this meeting is how many unusual items can be fitted inside an ordinary sized matchbox.
