THE bells of a village church will be rung in tribute to a community stalwart later this month.
The announcement about the tribute was made at the funeral of Ian Fletcher, general manager of Hurworth Community Association, based at The Grange in the village, near Darlington.
Yesterday, family, friends and colleagues packed All Saints' Church, Hurworth, to pay their last respects to Mr Fletcher.
During the service, the Reverend Roy Graham, rector at the church, described Mr Fletcher as a man of many talents who would be a great loss to the community.
The congregation heard how Mr Fletcher was involved in many aspects of community life and was well known for his performances in the village pantomimes.
His love of music and his role in organising the Picnic in the Park concert was mentioned and two hymns were sung to recognise his patriotism.
The bell-ringing will take place on Saturday, September 21.
