The Salvation Army at Sacriston is about to celebrate its centenary.
To celebrate, it is joining in with approximately 7,300 churches of all denominations across the country in hosting an Alpha course, which begins on Tuesday.
The Alpha course is a practical and contemporary introduction to the Christian faith and provides a relaxed and informal opportunity for participants to make up their own mind about Christianity. It is constructed around one meeting a week for ten weeks.
Envoy Stephen Jones, leader of the Salvation Army in Sacriston, says: "Alpha is a wonderful opportunity for anyone to investigate the Christian faith and to look for answers to the 'big' questions of life."
More than 1.3 million people across the UK are already estimated to have taken part in local Alpha courses.
The introductory session begins at 7pm on Tuesday in the Salvation Army hall.
