THE Under-13s opened the season in the Russell Foster junior league with two wins, 5-3 at home to Hilda Park and 2-1 away to Birtley Town.
Michael Johnson, Glen Newton (2), Richard Elmes and Martin Trow scored against Hilda Park, the goals against Birtley coming from Newton (pen) and Trow. The Under-14s won 3-2 away to Durham City with goals from Terry Drummond, Lewis Hope and Ryan Young. Adam Combie was man of the match. The Under-16s drew 2-2 at Jarrow St. Bedes with goals from man if the match Chris Hutton and Daniel Lee. In the small-sided Russell Foster League, the Under-9s made a good start with four points out of six. After drawing 0-0 with Eurocamps from Sunderland, the Willington lads beat Byers Green 3-1 with David Nelson (2) and Luke Elmes getting the goals.
St Mary's
The Under-10 side started the season in the Tesside Junior Alliance with a 3-0 victory at home to Hartburn Juniors. The goals came from Matt Bedford, Billy Hutton and Joe King with a fine solo effort. The Under-14s came from behind to draw 2-2 away to Hartlepool St. Francis. Russ Woodward and Laurence Oliver were the Auckland scorers.
