A one-day conference on wind farms is being held in Newcastle this weekend.
The Council for the Protection of Rural England has joined forces with the Government Office for the North-East to arrange the conference. Anyone interested in the future of wind farms is welcome to attend the free event on Saturday. For more details, call (01661) 844752.
CORONER'S PLEA: Teesside Coroners' officers are trying to trace relatives of Patricia Singh, 52, of Emerald Street, Middlesbrough, who died last Friday. There were no suspicious circumstances, but members of the family are asked to ring (01642) 243221.
GARDENS SHUT: The Winter Gardens, in Sunderland, have been temporarily closed for essential maintenance work. The public will be informed of the attraction's re-opening and the museum and Eden Caf will remain open, with restricted access to the shop, in the meantime.
BRIDGE BLAZE: Firefighters tackled a blaze at Middlesbrough's Newport Bridge on Saturday. The cause of the fire, which happened at about 2.30pm, is being investigated.
RUGBY CONTEST: An article in Saturday's Northern Echo incorrectly stated that a rugby sevens competition would be held in Horden, east Durham, on Thursday. The charity event will in fact be held tomorrow, kicking off at 2pm. Teams taking part are Horden RFC, University of Newcastle, Easington Council, police and fire services, and a Newcastle Falcons development team. We apologise for the error.
