SOLDIERS from the region have mounted a recruitment campaign.
The nine soldiers, from local corps and regiments including the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, the Royal Signals Corps and the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, took part in the national campaign's regional launch at Haymarket, in Newcastle, on Monday.
They displayed the vehicles and equipment they use and talked to young people about training, to help demonstrate the wide range of career options available in the Army.
The event marked the local launch of nine new Army career groups - combat, officers, engineering, logistics, IT/communications, healthcare, HR/admin and finance, specialist careers and further education. It is hoped that they will help the Army achieve annual targets of 15,000 soldiers and 1,000 officers.
Major Brian Young, senior Army recruiter for Tyne and Wear, said: "The North-East is traditionally the Army's strongest recruiting area in the country, but even here, we need to communicate all the different career and training opportunities that an Army career offers."
