BACKERS of Bond Becks seem sure to get a good run for their money on day one of Ayr's Western Meeting.
Brian Smart's speedy youngster has done nothing but improve all season, winning with any amount in hand in maiden sprint at Beverley in July.
And he's since proved his effectiveness in much stiffer Group 2 company by making impressive late headway to take fourth spot behind Wunders Dream in the Flying Childers Stakes at Doncaster's St Leger festival.
Bond Becks (3.05) has so far done all of his racing on a fast surface, however there's always been a suspicion he could be even better with a bit of juice in the turf and recent rain has ensured underfoot conditions will be absolutely perfect for the selection.
There's nothing like getting the afternoon off to a winner and Earlston (2.05) might just be the answer to the one-mile Glenfairn House Hospice Selling Stakes.
Jim Goldie hasn't had too much luck at the fixture over the past few years, although that might all be about to change if Earlston progresses as expected. Last time out at the course he ran a perfectly respectable race to finish sixth in a contest featuring rivals far stronger than he has to meet today.
Colway Ritz loves to hear his hooves rattle so the prevailing fast ground at Pontefract will suit Wilf Storey's gelding just dandy.
Having won pulling the proverbial cart at York two starts ago, Colway Ritz then failed to follow-up at Newcastle where he was badly outpaced in the early stages until finishing like a scalded cat to snatch fourth place.
Lisa Jones, one of the most promising young jockeys around, takes the ride on Colway Ritz and she'll not let the veteran eight-year-old get too far behind in the early stages of the Betfair.com Apprentice Handicap.
Best bet at Yarmouth is Soltaat (4.25), who was patently robbed of victory at Folkestone 17 days ago when his saddle slipped just yards from the finishing post.
Had Soltaat's jockey been able to ride a finish he would have won that day and no doubt the tack will be double and triple checked before lining up for the Robert Levitt Maiden Handicap.
