A tremendous fightback against Regency Windows saw West Cornforth win their first game of the season. Despite trailing 1-0 at the break, West battled hard to win the home match 3-1.

Tony Roe's deflected equaliser was only the start of the fabulous fightback as Roe scored again with a fine drive to make it 2-1. Davy Graham rounded off the scoring to hand his side a much-needed win.

In division four, newcomers Crook Town are settling in nicely and won 2-1 away to the Dagmar. They took the lead on the half hour only for Dagmar to draw courtesy of Billy Laydon shortly after the restart. However, Crook came back strongly, eventually scoring to finish 2-1 winners of a hard-fought game.

Thornley Celtic are an improved side this season and are now in fifth place and have a chance of promotion. They won 4-1 away to the Marsden Vets. Marsden were first to score courtesy of Billy Foley, but Thornley levelled shortly before the interval.

The restart saw Thornley take control and in a purple patch they netted two goals in ten minutes to completely shatter Marsden's hopes of a revival. Shortly before the whistle Thornley scored again to run out comfortably 4-1 winners.

Trimdon Vets lost 3-0 at home to Oddies. Oddies, relegated last season, are a totally different side and probable promotion contenders. They took the lead through Michael Wharton and in the second half scored twice through Derek Henderson and Bobby Bosher to end up 3-0 winners.

Reigning champions Billingham Wanderers, currently in third place, showed just how dangerous they are by defeating newly-promoted Sunderland Catholics 6-1 away.

They controlled the game from start to finish, scoring three goals in each half.

Ferryhill Greyhound drew 1-1 at home to newcomers Grindon Broadway. Paul Callender gave the home side the lead after ten minutes, but Ferryhill failed to consolidate this early, but held on despite Grindon's effort until one minute from time.

In division one, Newton Aycliffe are new leaders winning 1-0 away to Wardley Green. They took the lead when Geoff Pender crossed for Charlie Smith to slot through to Tony Jinks. The outstanding player was Stuart Hewson for Aycliffe.

Croft drew 2-2 to Blackhall Hardwick, who lost their two opening game by going nap and scoring five without reply against Wearmouth.

In division two, Glaxo did well to draw 1-1 away to Consett. Geoff White gave Glaxo the lead after 15 minutes and shortly before the interval Consett levelled.

In division three, Durham City Strollers lost 2-1 at home to Billingham Town, who are now in second place level on points with the leaders Wynyard Vets.
