Durham Vic and SC Sunderland produced a thriller in what must be described as the game of the round.
The Vic's Linton Pratt opened the scoring and shortly after Neil Middlemiss equalised for Sporting Club. John Cain then added another one for Sporting Club before Barry Cook made it 3-1 to the visitors at half time. The Vic then rallied and fought back through Linton Pratt and Darren Burnham to make the score level. Kenny Melvin then sent The Vic ahead with only three minutes on the clock. It was not to be the Vic's day however although leading 4-3 with two minutes to go Neil Middlemiss and substitute Mark Banks scored for Sporting Club to send them through to the next round.
Seaham Mallard took the scalp of high flying Cockfield when they beat them 5-4 in extra time with a golden goal from Jimmy Taylor.
Cockfield's scorers Richard Burn, Steven Rogers, Richard Dunn and Paul Dunn, while Barry Cougle, Chris Bleadsdale, Paul Dunn scored an own goal and John Crangle scored for Mallard.
Springwell were too strong for Ebchester when they ran out 7-3 winners with goals from Mark Kirtley 2; David Hills 2; Ian Davison 1; Michael Thompson 1; and Danny Murray 1. Ebchester's goals came from Andrew Pearson, Keith Coulder and Neil Swainston.
Birtley Town Res were well beaten by a strong Shildon Railway side who ran out winners 6 goals to one. Shildon's Kevin Hamilton done the damage with four goals to his name, Stephen Hall netting the other one. With Colin Beadling getting Birtley's consolation goal.
Belford House were too strong for Garden Farm Real winning three 3-0 with Michael Connor getting a brace and Dave Scott the other goal.
Brandon Station were no match for Whitehill on the day who ran out winners 3-0. From a great cross from David Stephenson Mark Elliott scored with a diving header. What must rank as the best goal of the season already, came from Gary Robson who thumped in an unstoppable shot with a scissors kick from just outside the box. Whitehill's third goal was a family affair with Gary Robson this time providing the cross for brother Justin in the 85th minute to score. Both keepers had very good games with Brandon's John Bottoyshine just getting the edge over Mark Middlemass only due to the fact he was the more busy keeper on the day.
