A MAN has died and a woman is fighting for her life after a car crash.
The 20-year-old man, from the Guisborough area, died after his car collided with another on the A171.
A woman aged 50 was described as being in a critical but stable condition in the University Hospital of North Tees, Stockton, yesterday and another woman was described as poorly but stable at Middlesbrough General.
The accident happened when the man's white Nissan Almera collided with the women's red VW Polo which was travelling on the opposite carriageway. It is believed the Almera crossed over to the opposite carriageway.
Firefighters cut both the women free at the scene of the crash near the Cross Keys pub, between Swan's Corner and Guisborough. Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene, shortly after the accident at about 5.20pm.
The incident means that 20 people have died on the A171 road to Whitby in the past four years.
The man will not be named until all the relatives have been informed.
