FANS of flower arranging and alternative therapies will have a unique opportunity this weekend thanks to the generosity of bride-to-be Karen Grey.
Karen, who marries Harry Humble, near Lanchester, on Saturday, is handing her flower-filled wedding marquee over to the Macmillan Cancer Care charity after her wedding.
She is hoping that the combination of a fabulous floral display by renowned artist David Rylands and a bevy of complementary therapists, will draw the crowds on Sunday.
Karen hopes that the £5-a- head event called Wedding Flowers and Healing Powers will boost the coffers of the Macmillan County Durham appeal.
Macmillan is one year into a three-year campaign to raise £600,000 to improve the level of support to terminally ill cancer patients and their families.
The charity is close to its first year target of £200,000.
Karen said: "As my family and so many others sadly know, the work of the Macmillan nurses is hugely valuable to cancer sufferers. They are famous for their all-embracing, practical support and their compassion.
"We are delighted that the fundraising team has been so imaginative in creating this event in our wedding marquee.
"We hope people will come and support the day."
The event takes place at Low Woodside, between Consett and Lanchester, from 11am to 6pm on Sunday. Tickets are available on the door.
