THE president of the Hartlepool Constituency Labour Party (CLP) has resigned following a row about a nuclear power station.
Keith Fisher walked out of the CLP meeting on Wednesday night after resigning as president. He said that it had not been easy for him to resign and he was concerned about the future of the party. The row centres on Mr Fisher's criticism of Government proposals to build a new nuclear power station - with Hartlepool identified as a possible site. Earlier this year, Mr Fisher proposed a resolution to adopt a policy to "oppose any further development of nuclear powered establishments within this borough". Hartlepool MP Peter Mandelson said the resolution was "premature".
