VILLAGERS are being urged to join a guided walk to raise money for a new skateboard park.
Coxhoe Community Partnership, which created the Coxhoe Kidzone play area, is holding a three-and-a-half mile walk tomorrow.
Money raised will go towards the partnership's next project, creating a park for skateboarders, rollerbladers and BMX cyclists next to the Kidzone site.
The partnership's Skidzone site will feature a road safety area marked with a roundabout, junctions and zebra crossing, so youngsters can learn about the hazards of crossing, and cycling on, roads.
In June the partnership and the Durham County Council Parish Paths Partnership produced a leaflet of local walks to celebrate the Queen's jubilee.
Tomorrow's walk, which is expected to take up to three hours, will be led by Victoria Lloyd, of the Parish Paths Partnership.
There will be refreshment stops, and participants, who will receive a certificate and badge, are welcome to take a picnic.
The walk costs £1 for adults, 50p for children and is free to anyone who fills a sponsor sheet.
Places should be booked by calling Victoria Lloyd on 0191-383 3355. Sponsor forms are available.
Walkers will meet at Coxhoe Leisure Centre at 10am and set off half an hour later.
The organisers say walkers can take a picnic, which can be eaten during short refreshment stops.
