A YOUTH hostel has lodged a second planning application to build a wind turbine to provide electricity for the building.
Teesdale District Council recently granted permission to erect a turbine and solar panels at the hostel, at Langdon Beck, in Teesdale.
But despite backing from planning officers and councillors, the youth hostel decided to submit a second application for a smaller turbine after local people raised concerns over the impact it would have on the countryside.
As well as providing electricity, the turbine and solar panels would feature in an environmental centre, which will be used to promote renewable energy to visitors.
Teesdale District Council's development control south committee will discuss the application at a meeting on Wednesday.
Planning officers will recommend that members approve the application.
