SATISFIED Hartlepool United boss Chris Turner last night saluted his stand-in trikeforce.

Adam Boyd netted his second goal of the week to keep Pool's advantage on top of Division Three. And Boyd's impact is ensuring Pool don't miss broken leg victim Gordon Watson as much as first feared when he was injured against Darlington nine days ago.

Boyd's 82nd minute effort earned a draw at Bury and Turner said: "Adam had two or three excellent efforts, he hit the bar, one went over the top and played well. And Eifion Williams had an excellent game, he worked unbelievably hard up front, getting in behind defenders and winning lots of possession.

"Boydy's got that little bit of class and quality that can get goals.''

Boyd said: "I couldn't miss the chance really. I got in the way of Sweeney's shot just before so that made up for it.

"I was trying to turn my shirt around to celebrate with my name on the front, but it took me about 15 minutes to do it so I gave up!"

Turner switched to 4-4-2 for the closing stages after starting with three at the back.

"We matched them man for man all over the pitch and then changed the formation. We knew they would start off very quickly at a good tempo and knew we had to combat it,'' he explained.

"They got one goal and then from the last 15 minutes of the first-half we took over. We hit the bar, their keeper made some great saves and I thought we gave a very strong, good away performance. The tempo is always going to be dictated by the home team and we knew the pace they would start with. That didn't surprise us, we knew we would have to battle and hang in. In the end we could have won the game.''

And the Pool boss, who faces Rushden and Diamonds at Victoria Park on Saturday, added: "Ritchie Humphreys covered the left hand side superbly, he's done it before for Sheffield Wednesday so I had no qualms about him playing there.

"He put some great balls in and he was in there heading balls away at the back stick.

"We had great away support again, they were there in numbers and even if we had lost the game 1-0 they would have left the ground thinking they had seen another good away display."
