THE first farmers' market to be held in Stockton will take place on Wednesday.

The event will be held in the town's Wellington Square Shopping Centre and if it is a success, it will be held every fourth Wednesday at the same venue.

Eleven members of Northumbria Larder, the regional association of speciality food producers, are supporting the market together with other businesses from the local area. Among the produce on sale will be beef, lamb, pork, sausages, beefburgers, bacon, cheese, home-made fudge and fruit juices.

TRIBUTE NIGHT: A 1980s music night has been organised in Middlesbrough for charity. There will be music from Duran Duran, The Human League, Queen, Billy Ocean and Madonna. All money raised from the night at The Ladle, Ladgate Lane, Middlesbrough, on Friday, October 4, will go to the Free From Pain charity. LIFESTYLE COURSE: A healthy lifestyle course is starting next month. Circus skills, salsa dancing and yoga are on offer as part of the course during eight Monday evenings at the Adult Education Centre, Corporation Road, Redcar, starting on October 7. HISTORICAL WALK: Myths and legends of Hartlepool will be examined by torchlight tonight. The free guided walk around the town's Headland, called Fairies and Fables will include the ghost of the Grey Lady, tales of the Hartlepool monkey, and the story of how fishermen once spread their nets to halt the spread of cholera. The walk starts at the Heugh Lighthouse, Moor Terrace, at 6.30pm and will last until about 8pm. Anyone interested is advised to bring a torch and children must be accompanied by an adult.
