THE name of the first further education college to be built in the North-East for more than 30 years has been officially announced.
Costing £16.5m, the college will open in January when the two Stockton and Billingham College campuses move on to a new site at Teesdale, Stockton.
Dari Taylor, MP for Stockton South, unveiled a plaque revealing the name of the complex as Stockton Riverside College.
The main structure of the building is finished and work is nearing completion on the rest of the site.
The next stages of the project will see the continued installation of carpet and floor fittings, specialist lighting for the theatre, landscaping and planting, and the completion of painting and decorating.
Mrs Taylor said: "This is a college for the 21st Century. It is state-of-the-art. It is the first new college of further education to be built in the North-East for more than 30 years and I am so pleased it is in my constituency."
