PLANS to relocate Betty's tea shop in Northallerton's High Street have been welcomed by the town council.
The firm is proposing to move to a former bank at 189a High Street.
Councillor David Blades said: "It is a substantial investment. Normally, we would be alarmed at a cafe going into a bank - which is also a listed building - but it is Betty's, and if anyone can make a good job of it and retain architectural merits they can.
"They need more room and I think it will be a welcome addition to the town."
Chairman Councillor Jack Dobson said: "I go along with that. Betty's has done a great job elsewhere and it is a hugely popular place.
"The toilets in the present premises are far from adequate and they intend to remedy that."
It was agreed to recommend approval.
