A TEENAGER has become a town's youngest ever Citizen of the Year.

Clair Wallis, who has cerebral palsy, received Guisborough's honour in recognition of her determination to beat her disability and take part in community life.

The wheelchair-bound 14-year-old attends an ordinary comprehensive, is a Guide, and attends Rememberance Sunday every year.

This year, Clair, who lives with her mother, Sue, and father, Dave, in Thames Avenue, overcame the additional hurdle of two major operations on her hip, to do well in her Sats exams.

Chairman of Guisborough Town Council Dave Punshon nominated Clair for the honour.

He said: "I have known this young lady since she was born and she truly is an inspiration to us all, she never complains and is always positive and enthusiastic about life."

Mrs Wallis said: "We are very proud of her.

"It doesn't matter what life throws at her she always has a smile on her face."
