B&Q has enlisted the services of Jobcentre Plus to help recruit 240 staff for a 152,500sq ft superstore which is due to open in the North-East early next year.
It follows the success of similar recruitment partnerships with other major retailers. The store will be in Eston, Teesside.
Steve Davidson, Tees Valley Jobcentre Plus district manager, said: "B&Q has an excellent recruitment policy and is keen to hear from people of all ages, including people who may be looking to return to work after bringing up a family or after taking early retirement."
Two open days will be held at Eston Sports Academy on Friday and Saturday where potential recruits can talk to people from B&Q. Jobcentre Plus staff will be also on hand to talk about training opportunities through New Deal to help people of all ages who may need more help to prepare for retail work.
They will also advise on the extra financial help that is available in some cases, including to people over 50 through New Deal 50 plus.
Camille Hesp, B&Q's human resources advisor, said they looked forward to meeting people at the open days - from 9am until 6pm on Friday and from 9am until 1pm on Saturday.
