TEAMS from across the region clashed oars in an annual boat race at the weekend.
The Butterwick Children's Hospice, of Stockton, hosted its second annual dragon boat race on the River Wear, in Durham, as part of Children's Hospice Awareness Week, which started yesterday.
Organised with help from the Three River Serpents Dragon Boat Club, it involved eight local teams.
Spectators saw the Arlsey Oars team, from East Harlsey, near Northallerton, North Yorkshire, triumph to scoop the Butterwick Children's Hospice Dragon Boat Race Cup.
Children's hospice fundraiser Barbara Marr said: "It was absolutely fantastic.
"The weather was glorious and it was what fundraising is all about - a group of people having a fun day and raising funds for the hospice at the same time."
Ms Marr said that she hoped the amount raised would top last year's total of more than £2,500, as more teams had entered this year. She urged firms and individuals interested in taking part in next year's event to contact her on (01642) 624231.
"It's great for team building and a good day out, and no experience is necessary," she said.
