A GROUP of County Durham primary schools will celebrate all things oriental in a Chinese festival next week.

A delegation of headteachers from five primary schools in the county visited China during the Easter holidays, after being invited by Chinese education bosses wishing to glean expertise from English teachers.

Inspired by their trip, the teachers are now bringing the spirit of China to Cockton Hill Infant School, Spennymoor, Catchgate Primary Schoolgate near Stanley, Langley Park Primary School and Sacriston Junior School, both near Durham, and Crook Primary School.

During the festival pupils will have the chance to try Chinese cookery and kite-making and will have a visit from Chinese community artists.

Crook primary is also considering creating its own Chinese dragon.
