A WOMAN had to be cut from the wreckage of her car after it was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle yesterday morning.

The accident happened just after 9am on the A67, near Piercebridge, at the junction with the B6275.

Firefighters called to the scene used heavy cutting equipment to reach the woman, who suffered back injuries.

Although she was taken by ambulance from the crash scene to Darlington Memorial Hospital she was not thought to be seriously hurt.

The male driver of a Rover Metro involved in the collision needed treatment for shock and whiplash.
