A BATCH of instant coffee is being recalled by the maker as a result of glass contamination in at least one jar.
Although small pieces of glass have so far only surfaced in a single jar of Caf Direct Freeze Dried Instant Coffee, the company has taken the precaution of recalling the entire batch to allow further investigation into the source.
The recall applies only to Caf Direct's 5065 Freeze Dried Premium Instant Coffee, in 100g glass jars. Each carries a best before date of May 2003, and batch number L1326 DE.
Customers are advised to contact Caf Direct, which will arrange for collection and has pledged to reimburse customers in full.
Sunderland environmental health officer Norma Johnston, who issued the warning, stressed that it was "purely a precautionary measure".
"Nevertheless, we would urge consumers and traders to check jars and, if they find this particular batch number, to call the helpline."
Anyone with queries can contact Caf Direct, on (08457) 660192.
