DARLINGTON chairman George Reynolds last night claimed he would allow teenager Adam Rundle to join Division Three rivals Carlisle United in a swap deal for striker Richie Foran.
It had been thought Rundle would be joining the Brunton Park club on loan until the end of the season. However, as the 18-year-old is still on scholarship terms, he cannot play for another League side until he has signed a professional contract.
The highly-rated young winger is training with the Cumbrians, and has attracted interest from a host of Premiership sides.
But he has been unable to force his way into manager Tommy Taylor's first team on a regular basis, and now Reynolds has admitted he is willing to do business with Carlisle if they allow 22-year-old Foran to come in the opposite direction.
"I cannot see Carlisle coming up with £200,000 for the player, never mind more than £500,000," said Reynolds. "But I would do a straight swap deal with Richie Foran, if that's what they want."
Foran, who is also being tracked by first division Preston, burst onto the scene at Carlisle after signing from Shelbourne in August 2001.
The front-man's first goal in the Third Division was ironically against Darlington two weeks' after he signed for the Cumbrians, and in his first season finished as the club's top scorer with 16 in 41 appearances.
Reynolds also revealed he is still trying to add three new players to the Darlington squad ahead of Saturday's trip to Orient. The Quakers are still hoping to bring striker Marco Gabbiadini back to the club, and are also keen on Carlisle defender Stuart Whitehead.
Feethams boss Taylor and chairman Reynolds have been holding negotiations throughout the week to bring the players in, but so far none have put pen to paper.
Reynolds said: "I have to make it quite clear to the fans we have the money to spend on the right players.
"There's no shortage and we are trying to spend the money on new players. We are still working on Gabbiadini, Whitehead and we're still chasing another player who I'm not prepared to name."
Reynolds also revealed his disappointment with the recent run of results, but the Feethams supremo believes Taylor will soon turn things around.
