THE second most senior post in the Durham Police force is being advertised, after former deputy Paul Garvin stepped up to become Chief Constable earlier this month.
His elevation, following the recent retirement of predecessor George Hedges, led to the deputy chief constable role becoming vacant.
Assistant Chief Constable Ron Hogg is temporarily filling the post as acting deputy chief until an appointment is made by the Durham Police Authority.
In turn, chief superintendent Derek Hall, recently seconded to Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary, has returned to the force to serve as acting assistant chief constable.
Prior to his secondment, Mr Hall was commander for the force's Sedgefield division.
The new Chief Constable, Mr Garvin, was previously assistant chief constable with West Yorkshire force before coming to Durham as deputy chief in March 2000.
