DRUGS with a street value of almost £2.8m have been recovered from two flats during police raids co-ordinated by an anti-drugs operation.
The raids were carried out as part of the long-running Operation Bobbin aimed at targeting drug dealers in the east end of Newcastle.
The haul included 26 kilos of amphetamine sulphate with a street value of £2.5m, 40 kilos of cannabis resin worth £200,000 and 13 kilos of cannabis skunk worth £48,000.
The raids, on Monday, followed similar raids in the same area on Friday, in which drugs with a street value of almost £300,000 were recovered.
Following the raids, two men have been remanded in custody charged with conspiracy to supply Class A and B drugs and two were remanded on bail pending further inquiries. No arrests were made in Monday's raids.
Detective Chief Inspector Bob Pallas, of Northumbria Police, said yesterday: "The main benefit of this successful operation is that we have stifled the supply of drugs into these communities and disrupted a major criminal organisation."
