Darlington'S Bondgate Round Table ran a back-to-school disco at Sadberge Village Hall in aid of Hurworth Comprehensive School's bid for specialist mathematics and computing status.
If the school raises £50,000 by the end of the month it can bid for specialist status.
GARDEN TIPS: Gordon Long and Malcolm Hockham, who regularly give out gardening advice on local radio, will visit Polam Hall School, Darlington, on Friday, October 4, at 7pm, for a slideshow and to answer questions. Tickets are available from the school or Eggleston Hall Gardens, near Barnard Castle.
ANIMAL AID: The Hartlepool Misfits motorcycle group drove from their home in Hartlepool to Sadberge, near Darlington, to deliver dozens of tins of dog food to the National Canine Defence League's rehoming centre. If you would like to offer a dog a home call (01325) 333114.
FAIR ARRIVES: A family fairground is visiting Darlington next week. The fair will be held in the Mowden House car park, in Staindrop Road, from Wednesday to Saturday.
NEW ROLE: Bishop Auckland College has appointed a new press and publicity officer. Samantha Lincoln, 27, lives in Gateshead and is a media studies graduate whose career has been in magazine journalism and public relations.
LEEK SHOW: The Sportsman pub in Toft Hill holds its annual leek show on Saturday, with viewing from 6pm. There will be a sale of produce on Sunday, at 9pm with proceeds going to Toft Hill pensioners.
CHARITY EVENTS: The Brown Trout, in Sunnybrow, near Crook, is hosting a charity concert on Saturday and a fun day, car boot sale and sponsored bungee jump on Sunday, from noon to 4pm. To take part in the jump call (01388) 746454.
AUTUMN FAIR: West Auckland Memorial Community Association is holding an autumn fair in The Memorial Hall on Saturday, from 2pm.
COFFEE MORNING: Wolsingham Methodist Church is holding a coffee morning on Saturday, at 10am.
FUN NIGHT: A family fun night at St William's RC Primary School, Trimdon, organised by the friends of the school was very well supported by pupils past and present, staff, parents and friends of the school.
CHARITY FUNDRAISER: Williamson Motors in Spennymoor is joining in the Macmillan Cancer's Relief's World's Biggest Coffee Morning event. The car dealers will hold its coffee morning tomorrow, from 9.30am until noon, and there will be a chance for visitors to win a car.
SPEED MONITOR: Teesdale Accident Prevention Committee heard that a traffic data unit has been installed at Little Newsham and South Cleatlam to monitor traffic speed. The next meeting is at 2pm on December 12, at the council offices in Barnard Castle.
