POLICE have issued an e-fit of the thief they believe is responsible for a callous attack on a pensioner.
The man called at the house of an elderly lady in Edmund Street, Darlington, at 2.40pm on Monday, posing as a council worker who was fixing the plumbing.
He persuaded the victim to check the water flow and while she was distracted he stole money from another room.
Police believe he may have visited other homes in the area before this incident.
The man was in his mid-20s, 5ft 3ins and stocky. He had short, dark hair and a rosy complexion. He spoke with a local accent and was wearing a black shirt and dark trousers.
Anyone with information is asked to call (01325) 743111 or Crimestoppers on (0800) 555111.
