TWO sheltered accommodation sites in Shepherdson Court, Grangetown, Teesside, are the latest recruits to join 250 residents who have signed up to neighbourhood watch schemes in the area.
Co-ordinator Joyce Oakden said: "There has been a big uptake from residents over the past year and it is hoped this trend will continue.''
PC Chris Gunnell, from the Cleveland's community policing team, said: "There are 16 schemes operating throughout South Bank. Our aim is to cover the whole of the area to make it harder for the criminal to operate here.
"Core crime has been driven down, but there is still an element of fear of crime, anti-social behaviour and nuisance incidents.
"We want to reduce this fear and make South Bank a safer place to live.''
Door chains, timers and personal attack alarms are on offer to residents.
South Bank and Grangetown Neighbourhood Watch won a national award sponsored by the Norwich Union last year in recognition of their work in the district.
