THE country's largest independent bingo firm plans to open a £3m club in the centre of Peterlee.
Buckingham Bingo is planning a 1,100-capacity club in the town's Castle Dene Shopping Centre.
It will employ 60 people as callers, cashiers, receptionists, car park attendants and cleaners. There will also be a team of 12 in the club's subsidised restaurant.
The 24,000sq ft club will have the latest bingo technology, gaming machines, air conditioning and disabled facilities.
The company says it chose Peterlee from 20 potential locations across the country.
A spokesman said "We hope it will be a big hit with the community, as it will offer them a wide range of social activities, entertainment and a meeting place for Peterlee residents.'
