Darlington opened the scoring in first half added time as Neil Wainwright headed home a Barry Conlon cross.
Darlington couldn't hold on to their first half advantage as fellow strugglers Leyton secured a 2 - 1 win.
Lee Thorpe was Leyton's driving force in the second half as he struck the ball on two occasions at Darlington keeper Andy Collett before taking part in the equaliser.
Thorpe and Nugent gave Carl Hutchings the opportunity to open the scoring for Leyton but not until his second attempt as Collett made an outstanding save he could only parry away.
Orient took the lead in the 72nd minute with a diving header by Nugent from a Campbell-Ryce cross.
Ian Clark failed to take his chance to bring the game level as he missed the target with a late volley.
