A TEENAGER had one of the proudest moments of her life last week when she became Guisborough's youngest ever Citizen of the Year.
Clair Wallis received the honour on Thursday in recognition of her determination to overcome the restrictions of her cerebral palsy and take part in community life.
The wheelchair-bound 14-year-old attends a mainstream comprehensive, is a girl guide and attends Rememberance Sunday every year.
This year Clair, who lives with her mother and father Sue and Dave on Thames Avenue, overcame the additional hurdle of two major operations on her hip and did well in her Sats exams.
Guisborough Town Council chairman Dave Punshon nominated Clair for the honour.
He said: "I have known this young lady since she was born and she truly is an inspiration to us all. She never complains and is always positive and enthusiastic about life."
Mrs Wallis, who also has two sons, said: "We're very proud of Clair. It doesn't matter what life throws at her, she always has a smile on her face. She's a little nervous tonight but she's going to enjoy it, just like she does everything."
