DERELICT properties on Scarborough Council's Edgehill estate are to be pulled down as a priority after constantly being targeted by arsonists.
The 20 houses are to be demolished in the next two weeks, said Councillor Bill Chatt the council's cabinet member for housing.
Fire station officer Simon Render said: "We are beginning to see fires on the estate almost every night. We were called to a rubbish fire and someone had put two butane cylinders on top - it was a bomb waiting to go off."
The estate is being redeveloped in a multi-million pound project which will see new homes built for rent and shared equity.
