A LEADING North-East specialist is offering hope to sufferers of back pain.
Speaking on the eve of national Back Care Week, which gets under way today, Consultant orthopaedic and spinal surgeon Manoj Krishna, of the Woodlands Hospital, Darlington, said recent breakthroughs meant there was an alternative to a "life of pain".
Mr Krishna said: "Surgery for back pain is relatively new, in that it's only been around for the past few years. In that time, spinal surgery has advanced enormously and a tremendous lot can now be done."
However, he stressed that surgery was not the answer for everybody suffering from the complaint.
"Surgery for back and neck pain is a big step and offered only after conservative treatments have failed to help," said Mr Krishna.
