A man has admitted helping a gunman who went on the run to India after a street shooting.
Michael Vassallo, 23, supplied Britton Corner, 40, with a passport to flee the country while he was wanted in connection with the shooting of Graham Ebanks, 38.
Corner used a German wartime issue self-loading pistol to shoot Mr Ebanks after challenging him to a fight outside his home.
The bullet passed straight through the left side of his chest and came out through his back, puncturing a lung on the way, but he miraculously survived.
Corner, of Nevinson Avenue, South Shields, South Tyneside, was jailed for six-and-a-half years at Newcastle Crown Court in July after admitting causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
Vassallo, of Cobett Crescent, South Shields, yesterday pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice.
He was granted bail and will be sentenced on October 25.
