NORTH-EAST students are looking forward to having a leading band play for them after winning a television competition.
A team from Durham University secured the prize after beating rivals from Exeter in University Challenged, a parody of University Challenge, on Channel Four's T4 show.
The team - Student Union president Ben Wood, Tom Williams, the union's education and welfare officer, Amy Herd, Student Community Action manager, and Nicky Guy, St Mary's College Junior Common Room president - was quizzed on trivia, sport and pop questions.
Now the station will pick up the bill for hiring a headlining act for the university's Freshers' Ball on Wednesday, October 16.
Ben said: "We don't know who it will be yet but it must be one of the bands that only a big TV company could call on."
