A SCHEME to give householders peace of mind when they are away from home was launched on Teesside yesterday.
The Peace for a Pound initiative, supported by Cleveland Police, allows residents to register their details for £1 a month, so they can be contacted by officers if their property is burgled.
Inspector Simon Wilkinson said: "The system is simple to use, cost-effective and will save many hours of police officers' time. Officers will still attend all emergencies promptly but there will be no more waiting keyholders to be found or for keyholders to turn up to make decisions on what action they intend."
