POLICE are offering rewards to primary school pupils who can show they are well-behaved.
Six primary schools in South Tyneside are taking part in the scheme - the idea of community beat manager, PC Andy Wilkinson.
Under the scheme, which started yesterday, pupils aged four to 11 will be nominated for the award by their teachers.
The winner will receive a certificate and be presented with a shield, which they will keep for a month, by their local officer at a school assembly.
The winner will be selected on the basis of their punctuality at school, politeness to others, trying hard in lessons and good behaviour both in and out of school.
PC Wilkinson said: "We wanted a project that any child could win, not because they are clever but because they are well behaved."
