SCHOOLS across Stockton are taking part in a bulb planting project to brighten up the area.
Colin Powles, Stockton Borough Council's ranger for Great North Park, is leading the project with his new assistant Ian Bunting.
The project will start on Tuesday, when 49 pupils from Crooksbarn Primary School will be planting bulbs at the Norton Grange site, on Somerset Road.
Pupils from Tilary Primary School will also be getting their hands dirty at the Tilery site on October 11, while Oaktree Primary School youngsters will be doing the same at Primrose Hill on October 31.
The youngsters will be planting white and yellow daffodils, crocuses and snowdrops and, as well as planting them in Great North Park, they will also be given bulbs to plant at their schools.
Ian Bunting said: "The children taking part in the project are in their final year of primary school and the bulbs planted at their school will remain after they have left.
"Planting at the two sites means the kids can compare the growth of the flowers."
