PASSENGERS on a cross-country train were evacuated at Darlington railway station after a fire alert.
Travellers on the 8.55am Virgin train from Aberdeen to Cardiff alerted railway personnel in Darlington, at 2pm yesterday, after seeing smoke coming from the back of the train.
Fire crews from Darlington fire station were called but found that a fire extinguisher had been set off, which gave the impression of smoke. The train was not damaged.
As a precaution, passengers were evacuated and had to continue their journey on another train.
