Worthington Durham County CIU Summer League: Wheatley Hill A managed to take the runners-up spot in the First Division with a home recovery against the visiting Newton Aycliffe, who needed a whitewash success to save their top bracket status.
Denis Clish put the Hill ahead but then Bill Barrigan and Mark Howe took points for the visitors. Ronnie peacock levelled the match and Dean Bryden put the home side on the trophy list when he beat Stuart Neil. Shotton Palms knew they needed a maximum victory at Ferryhill coupled with a slip up from Wheatley Hill A if they were to land the runners-up spot. However Glyn Toas ended these hopes by taking the first frame for the home side. Shotton then took over and had wins from Colin Jobes, John Armstrong, Paul Hickman and Jimmy Evans.
Newhouse landed the Second Division title in style with a whitewash home success over Wheatley Hill B. The Newhouse points came from Ian Dinsdale, John Maddox, Jimmy Hassen, Ronnie Pearson and Steve Mountain.
Sherburn Village went into the last match of the season level on points with Newhouse but they had to be content with the runners-up spot after losing two points to the visiting Fishburn B.
Wingate got the one point then needed to clinch the Third Division Championship when Jimmy Mason took the first frame at Crowtrees, who needed a maximum win to take the title. Sonny Hann won for Crowtrees to level but Steve Allen restored Wingate's lead. Keith McLauchlan then put in a 49 break to level the match and end the unbeaten run of the Wingate captain. In the decider Wingate's John Bourne beat Peter Laverick.
Old Shildon celebrated their Championship victory with a home win over Brandon, whose only point came with a great recovery from John Hall to beat Jossie Aldworth, who had put in a 40 break, on the black. The Shildon winners were Michael Pratt, Billy Goggins, Andrew Aisbitt and Charlie Blake, who put in a 45 break.
Fishburn A finished in equal third place in the First Division after they whitewashed the visiting Witton Gilbert.
Durham City were relegated to the Third Division after they failed to take a point at Langley Park, where the home side had wins from Ray Coates, Kevin Keers, Paul Morgan, Lenny Thompson and Stephen Coates.
Stanley Central managed to take two vital points on their visit to Meadowfield to keep them in the Second Division. Jim Dufton took the first point for Stanley and Walter Cornell the last but Meadowfield went to victory with wins from Norman Smith, Malcolm Hughes and Ian Hodgson.
Crook Belle Vue went down by the odd point at home to Spennymoor B but failed to send in the scorecard. Leeholme A ended on a winning note when they edged through by the odd point against the visiting Sacriston.
New Durham completed their first season by having to play their second team to cover for the players away on holiday. Despite this they beat the visiting Tow Law in the decider. Kevin Scullion put the home side ahead but then Tommy Williams and Doug Watson moved the Lawyers ahead. Tony Robinson squared the match and then Wilf Coulthard cleared the colours from the green to beat Charlie Donaghy in the decider. Leeholme B finished at the foot of the table after they were whitewashed on their visit to Hunwick.

Crook League
Crook Olde Horse Shoe finally dropped a point when they entertained Crook Mill House and went down in the doubles, whilst leading 6-0. Mark Nicholls and Alan Saville took the doubles for the Mill when they beat Dave Leighton and Dave Walker, who missed a relatively easy black to gift victory to the visitors.
Crook Travellers Rest B moved up to share third place with Crook Royal Sun after they won in the decider at Crook White Swan. The Swan had singles wins from Darren Deuchars, Michael Sanderson and Andrew Finch whilst Michael Burke, Jimmy Singlewood and Jim Ainsley set up the decider. The Travellers went to victory when Michael Burke and Jim Ainsley beat Andrew Finch and Dave Stewart.
In the Second Division Crook Golden Fleece B pulled off a good away win at Howden Australian. The Aussie had singles points from Stephen Burke and Michael Lee to add to the doubles from Stephen hall and Ian Williams. The Fleece victory came with wins from Colin Howe, Graham Young, Gus Witton and Trevor Smith.
Crook Olde Horse Shoe lead the First Division by six points from Crook Belle Vue, who are two points ahead of the Travellers Rest B and the Royal Sun Inn. In the Second Division, Crook Jelly's Bar A are one point ahead of Crook Golden Fleece B, Crook King's Head and Willington Market, with the Australian a further point adrift.

Summer League Finals
The final of the Team Knock-Out Cup will be between Old Shildon or Fishburn A and Durham City or Newton Aycliffe at Crowtrees on Tuesday, 8 October with Alan Greener of Sherburn Village refereeing. The Plate final will be between Newhouse or Wheatley Hill A and Langley Park or Sacriston at Coundon on Tuesday, 8 October with Frank Nicholson of Coundon refereeing.
The Singles Championship Final will be held at New Durham on Monday, 7 October between Dave Walker of Wheatley Hill and Jimmy Evans of Shotton Palms with Alan Greener of Sherburn Village the referee.
The Pairs Championship Final between Brain Graham and John Hall of Brandon against Dave Robson and Adrian Jones of Ferryhill will be held at Newton Aycliffe on Tuesday, 8 October with Ken Rider of Crook Belle Vue the referee.

The results of the Quarter Finals were Adrian Prest 50 (Leeholme B) lost to Charlie Donaghy 28 (Tow Law); Scott Mallaburn 14 (Sherburn Village) lost to John Maddox 16 (Newhouse); Karl Thompson 45 (Leeholme B) beat Michael Pratt 24 (Durham City); Jimmy Evans 7 (Shotton Palms) lost to Kevin Sample 14 (Brandon).
The semi-finals will be Kevin Sample (Brandon) v John Maddox (Newhouse) at Ferryhill on Wednesday, 9 October with Mark Brown (Leeholme), the referee and Karl Thompson (Leeholme) v Charlie Donaghy (Tow Law) at Hunwick on Monday, 7 October with Harry Coates (Crook Belle Vue) the referee. Both matches are the best of five frames.
The Final will be held at Tow Law on Thursday, 17 October at 7.30pm when Mrs Joan Jobson, Jack's widow, will present the trophy to the winner.
Worthington Durham County CIU Winter League
The new season will begin on Tuesday, 15 October with 34 teams playing in three divisions. Entries from New Durham and Crowtrees B have been accepted with West Auckland resigning. Consequently the First Division will be made up of twelve teams, meaning that Willington's anticipated relegation will not take place.
Ferryhill move down to the Second Division, whilst Sherburn Village and Meadowfield are promoted. Bearpark move up to the Second Division with Belmont's Second Division status saved by West Auckland's resignation.
The make up of the First Division will be Old Shildon, Wheatley Hill A, Cockton Hill, Fishburn A, Spennymoor A, Shotton Palms, Brandon, Witton Gilbert, Newton Aycliffe, Willington, Sherburn Village and Meadowfield.
The Second Division will be Ferryhill, Hunwick A, Langley Park, Stanley Central, Spennymoor B, Wingate, Newhouse, Crowtrees A, Wheatley Hill B, Belmont and Bearpark.
