CIU League: The semi-finals of the League Knock Out Cup went according to form with Cockton Hill and Crook Belle Vue qualifying for the Final, which will be arranged at a neutral venue on a date to be decided at the next league meeting.
Cockton Hill played Crowtrees at Chilton and needed a whitewash success on the pool table to finish up as the 9-6 winners. Cockton Hill edged the darts by the odd point, but Crowtrees came back strongly to take the dominoes at 4-1 only to go down without a point at pool.
Crook Belle Vue had a much easier passage to the Final when they played the Prospect Club at Willington and only dropped four points as they coasted to victory.
Bass Cup
Tow Law New Market A came through a tight quarter final at Newhouse Club to win by the narrowest of margins. The home side had the edge at dominoes where they had singles wins from Eddie Rowlands, John Craine, Dave Jones and Stan Conway with only Gary Parker and Dave Dixon replying. They went on to take the doubles by the odd point.
However the complete opposite happened on the darts board where the New Market only dropped one singles to Dave Thornton, whilst having wins from Colin Perry, Darren yeoman, Micky Seaton, David Dixon and Bob McFadden. This made up for the dominoes defeat and took the match to a deciding darts doubles where Darren Yeoman and Micky Seaton won to clinch a semi-final place.
The leading individual darts scorers were A. Suddes 160 for Dan's Castle, Lee Cullinan two 140's for the Moss Inn and L. Sanders 140 for the Earl Derby. R. McFadden made the best check-out with 149 for the New Market A.
Results: Tow Law New Market B 10 Sunniside Moss Inn 8; Stanley Earl Derby 12 Hamilton Row Black Horse 6; Tow Law Dan's Castle 3 Esh Stag's Head 12; Newhouse Club 8 Tow Law New Market A 8.
Willington Ladies League
Kim Tobbell hit a 108 check out for Willington Market to complete their three points victory at Willington Black Horse B. This could be the shot in the arm that the Market needed for they have now recorded two consecutive big darts wins after a poor start to the season. The darts section is dominated by the two teams from Willington Club, who share top place with a five points advantage over Sunnybrow Brown Trout and Willington Burn, who share the third spot.
In the top of the table clash in the dominoes section, Willington Burn only dropped one point at Willington Cottles, thus moving the hosts from top spot to third place. The Burn moved up to share the top with Hunwick Joiners Arms.
Results: Willington Cottles 4 (1) Willington Burn 5 (4); Willington Club A 7 (4) Willington Black Horse A 2 (1); Willington Black Horse B 3 (2) Willington Market 6 (3); Hunwick Joiners Arms 5 (4) Sunnybrow Brown Trout 4 (1); Willington Lion and Unicorn 3 (2) Willington Club B 6 (3).
Tow Law Cup
Tow Law Dan's Castle A were hoping for a league and cup double when they met Tow Law New Market B in the semi-final but the strength of the Market's dominoes players turned the game in their favour.
Only Ian Johnson managed to take a dominoes point for the Castle, whilst Michael Bell, Gavin Tennant, Ray Weir and Robert Hopps pushed the Market into the lead. The strong Castle pool side were shocked when they could only draw the singles with wins from David Craggs, Lee Stockdale and Jamie Dowson being matched with wins for the Market from Gavin Tennant, David Spencer and Raymond Weir.
The match was won by the New Market B when Tommy Sloan and David Spencer beat Ian Johnson and Anthony Hird in the first of the pool doubles. Tow Law New Market B will now meet the winners of the Hamilton Row Black Horse versus Lanchester King's Head semi-final.
