Tioxide 1 Barnard Castle 7: The high score was not a true reflection of this game in what proved to be an end to end game with excellent play by both teams.
However, it was Barnard Castle who triumphed. Their excellent short passing and finishing to out step the Tioxide defence lead to some very powerful shots on goal to record a well deserved win.
Stokesley 3 Norton 2
A determined Stokesley commenced the game strongly and after five minutes Donna Shaw crossed an excellent ball to Helen Waller who hammered home the first goal on her first game of the season. Stokesley continued to dominate the first half with attempts on the Norton goal, the pressure eventually coming to fruition with a second goal from Helen Waller. Norton's deence and especially their stand-in keeper Laura Whalley played very well making several vital saves. The second half saw a completely rejuvenated Norton as they commenced in the second with team changes, stand-in keeper Laura Whalley returned to her normal position on the field. Her place was taken by Sarah Whitelock, another outfield player. Still putting Stokesley under pressure a fine pass to Laura Whalley, who had a shot at goal beating keeper Terri Mathews to put new life into a determined Norton. Stokesley retained their composure and the game turned into an evenly fought match with end to end play. Norton's persistence paid off when Kim Naylor score the goal of the match with a blinding shot into the top corner of the net minutes from full time. With only minutes remaining neither team gave up. In the dying frantic minutes Stokesley were awarded a penalty corner. The pressure was on both team, if Stokesley could convert the penalty corner they could win the game. Norton had to defend well to keep a share of the points. The penalty corner was impelled into the circle where Stokesley Donna Shaw hit home the winning goal to give them a wine and three vital points. Player of the match Zoe Lewis for Stokesley and Laura Whalley for Norton.
