Billingham enjoyed a lovely day out near the Lakes at Sedbergh School competing in the Northern Region and World Wide Biathlon Challenge Day.
The first six in each category to compete in the National Biathlon Championships held in November at Sheffield. Billingham had a strong field of 28 competitors. The distances ranging from 50m swims to 200m the run from 1000m to 2000 depending upon age.
In the Youth F boys Joshua Trewin totalled 1252 points coming lst in both the swim, run and overall.
In the Youth E category Glen Martin amassed a total of 1855 coming first in the swim, run and overall. Glen was also first in the Worldwide event. Gareth Allen came 2nd with 1580 points.
In the Youth D category there were 3 boys. David Lamb came first in the swim, run and overall position with 2224 points also first for the Worldwide. Craig Grounds with 1826 points came 6th in the Northern and Worldwide whilst Anthony Brown with 1766 points came 8th and 7th respectively.
There were seven girls in Youth D.2nd Kathrine Usher with 1767 points, 3rd Rebecca Blane with1731 ponts, 4th Jessica Trewin with 1688 points, 5ht Philippa Shepherd with 1674 points, 6th Charlotte Brown with 1658 points, 7th Kerry Hassall with 1508 points and 8thStephanie Hughes on 1308 points. In the Worldwide Kathrine was 1stand achieved best run, Rebecca 2nd, Jessica 3rd, Charlotte 4th, Philippa 5th who also achieved fastest swim, and 6th Stephanie.
Youth C category: Competing in the boys were Shane Hassall who came 2nd in both the Northern and Worldwide with 1975 points with Philip Grounds coming 4th in both with 1674 points. For the girls Lisa Sheehan with 1925 points came 6th, Emma Shepherd 9th with 1727 points and Rachel Blane 12th with 984 points. In the Worldwide Lisa came 7th, Emma 9th and Racheal 12th.
There was only one girl competitor in the Youth B category. Jane Usher came 2nd with 1994 points in the Northern and 3rd in the Worldwide. Three boys competed Greg Dixon coming 2nd in the Northern. Matthew Sheehan competing in both came 4th in the Northern with 1825 points and 5th in the Worldwide. Peter Riddle also competing in both came 5th in the Northern with 1811 points and 6th Worldwide.
Andrew Dixon was successful in 3rd place in the Youth A category whilst Daniel Richardson in the Junior Men picked up silver in the Northern and gold in the World.
In the Masters category Guy Fawkes was a winner in both events picking up best swim and run. Dave Hassall came 2nd, Mark Wilson 3rd and Gary Snowball 4th. Four teams were successful in qualifying for Sheffield.
