EXPERTS are inviting the public to help uncover evidence of Iron Age remains next week.
After a series of aerial photographs and a recent geophysical survey, archaeologists have identified a site at the dig at Foxrush Farm, near Domanstown, in the Redcar area, as potentially rich in artefacts.
The survey located a number of remains which may represent pits, ditches and an area of burning, perhaps a hearth or kiln, dating back more than 2,000 years.
Robin Daniels, an officer with Tees Archaeology who is organising the dig with Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, said: "This is an opportunity for local people to find out about how people lived in the area before industry arrived."
Already about 20 volunteers have come forward for the dig organised for between Wednesday and Sunday, October 20. No experience is necessary but the team wants a minimum commitment of a week, working 10am to 4.30pm each day. Contact Tees Archaeology on (01429) 523455 for details.
