York University welcomed two new faces as the new academic year got under way this week.
Professor Brian Cantor has taken over as vice-chancellor, joining the campus from the University of Oxford, where he was head of the division of mathematical and physical sciences and director of the Begbroke Business and Science Park. Meanwhile, the university's new deputy vice-chancellor is Professor Felicity Riddy - the first woman to hold the post. Prof Riddy has taught English at York since 1988 and became a professor in 1991.
GERMANY CALLING: The Lord Mayor of York, Councillor David Horton, is leading a delegation from the city on a visit to German twin, Munster, marking 45 years of formal ties between the two communities and the 13th anniversary of German reunification. Also in the civic party are Lady Mayoress, Mrs Kathleen Gibson, Sheriff of York, Councillor Martin Brumby, Sheriff's Lady, Annette Brumby, council chief executive David Atkinson and city council executive member responsible for twinning issues, Councillor Bob Scrase.
HARVEST SERVICE: Ripon Cathedral hosts the Yorkshire Agricultural Society's annual harvest thanksgiving service, from 11.30am on Sunday. Lessons will be read by president, John Henderson, and the High Sheriff of North Yorkshire, Mark Evans. A hog roast lunch organised by the Ripon Cathedral Development Campaign follows the service.
TOP HOLE: York's Fulford Golf Club raised £11,265 for St Leonard's Hospice when 66 teams competed in its popular annual charity tournament. The event's success means members have raised more than £120,000 for the hospice over the past 22 years.
